"Never" is my estimate. Ditto for the shopping centre extension in "the gap" round the corner.

that's a shame as the site has been empty for a number of year's and it is a prime location to build something on there :(

Mind you, what about all the houses on the land by the bus depot? Nothing for years and then, they are up!

It's not really such a prime location, being located in a flood plain by a very busy and noisy road and bounded by utter 70s rubbish (bus station, multi-storey car park, shopping malls, etc). And it's not like Shrewsbury is a commercial mecca, with development companies vying for land to get offices and shops (or hotels) built! <_<

The fact that the site is in a flood plain and the future of ownership of the shopping centres is uncertain is causing the hold up.
The hotel has to be able to determine a safe escape route in case of flooding and the shopping centre would be the obvious solution to gain access to Pride Hill.

Perhaps someone should have told Alaska business park that ten years ago PS.
As it is the town is now set to expand up to that business park and has already started with the cheap nasty looking football stadium.

Shrewsbury has a multi storey car park much like many towns that recognise that people use cars these days PS.

The bus station forecourt is safer than it used to be but the internal areas need rethinking and smartening up.

The town needs a modern hotel in the town and with better direction and councillors we would have had one years ago. Also our theatre need not have been almost voted almost top in the ten worst new buildings in the country!

i've done a bit of investigation work and found out for myself when this project should be up and running.
ive read an article from the shropshire star (4th July 2010) that the hotel should be compleated in spring 2012 :D

Shrewsbury is an important and fairly vibrant town.

Shrewsbury I would say is the most vibrant and historical town in the whole of Shropshire! The fact the town does not have a sizeable Hotel escapes me. In an effort to attract more tourists to the town. Not sure myself on the location of this new one though.
