My Great-grandfather John Mather Pryce and his mother Elizabeth came from Shrewsbury. His birth is registered as John Mathew PRYCE Q1 (Jan/Feb/Mar) 1840 Shrewsbury GRO Ref XVIII (18) 178. By 1861 he has moved to Birmingham but I would love some background on his parents if any exists. Later the family changed their name to PRICE not sure why. :D

Have you spoken with any of the local (Shrewsbury) Pryces? At least until very recently, one Alan Pryce owned and managed a camera and film shop near St. Mary's Church (Photo-focus, 20 St. Mary's St.) not far from the Yorkshire House. I believe that this Alsn Pryce is the Alan Pryce whom I knew back in the 1967-73 era, when I was in Shrewsbury doing historical research. In 1967 the Alan Pryce I knew (and his parents) lived just outside Shrewsbury, and thus would be a local with some local roots. If all this is so, he might guide you and your search.
