Title: Sound Levels In Shrewbsury
Description: great venue, poor sound

I can not claim to have seen the Human League 6 times and seen then 7!

I guess this results from this article : http://www.shrewsburychronicle.com/2008/10...uarry-concerts/

Who do the council think they are?

First they close down the Albert Pub because of noise levels then the nanny state dictates to us how loud music can be - but it gets better - they have a by law which allows them to have unlimited noise levels when the Flower Show is on to allow the fireworks and brass bands!!

Who ARE these NIMBY folk who write in complaining about noise levels? Are they the same people who moan about the move of STFC Stadium or having to wait at a roundabout for 35 seconds so the council implement traffic lights?

Does this mean if 10,000 residents write in complaining they could not hear anything at the concert the sound levels would go back up?

Its a joke.

I am from Shrewsbury but have fled the nest lots but still live here. I have seen and worked at over 130 concerts, I lost count after that. You would not have killjoy Germans or Belgians complaining about sound levels.

What IS wrong with the people of Shrewsbury?

The whole point of Sex Talk by T'Pau was a thumping bassline - yet I could not hear it.

On moving closer to the stage you know something is wrong when a group of 5 girls 10 yards behind me singing along with Bananarama drown them out!

I used to work in the music industry and when speaking to the ACDC and Sade manager about where I live, he commented the Quarry would be an excellent venue. This was in about 1990.

Finally in 2009, I go to a gig at the Quarry. GREAT Venue! U2, Oasis, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode would not look out of place there. It would bring in thousands of visitors to the town too from all over the world.

Yet, AND I AM NOT DEAF - I have never been to a concert where I have wanted to should SHUT UP at the top of my voice to tell those around me from stop yakking away as I could not hear anything.

Shrewsbury is fast becoming a joke. The council are a bunch of killjoys. The Republic of Salopia has a lot going for it but its pointless to have people like Phil Oakely comment on how nice Shrewsbury is and then not hear their tunes.

I am not a Chrisitan but I certainly do not want to stop people enjoying what takes their fancy - but Im now reading they want to cancel the Carol Concert in the Square!

WHAT IS HAPPENING!!

Couldn't agree more, just read the 25 or so comments at the Shropshire Star website, everybody agrees it was too quiet.

It's possibly the worst weekend of the year. The Quarry is quite nice on those approximately two days a year it doesn't have a concert / circus / Flower Show / folk festival / fair / Sealed Knot mock battle / carnival / boy racers on mopeds / etc. etc.

Why do some people have to make so much noise? I don't come round your house and do it.
