This post was made during a time of black depression, still being treated for it.
Apologies to anyone offended by my remarks.
now i have to say i havent been late night shopping for quite a while as i have a baby and a young boy so it has curtailed this event for us, but i used to love late night shopping but my husband and i commented on this a couple of years ago that there seemed to be more youngsters than shoppers and this is probably putting quite a lot of people off, esp with the addition of internet shopping whereby you dont have to see any of these.and i always loved the atmosphere of late night shopping.
but i also think older people are not much better!
we went shopping on a thursday to mand s with a pram and i got soooo fed up with all the middle aged women standing in the way who wouldnt move after being politely asked and thought i could get around them with a pushchair. they just looked at me like i was insane! next time it will be their toes, then they will move ha ha
i just think people generally have less regard for other people and it is such a shame.

Did anyone try late night Christmas shopping in Shrewsbury ? Fot the last 2 Wednesdays, the whole event has been ruined by feral teenagers hell bent on ruining a night out, shoppers are being put off by the minority chav scum that seem to think they can do as they please. PCSO's and security staff appear to be doing their best to deal with the situation, but are struggling to cope. I for one, will not be coming into town on a Wednesday night again ! :( |
What was happening? I popped into town to look round a few shops around 7pm on Wednesday, and noticed how many teenagers were hanging about on Pride Hill, but didn't see any outright bad behaviour. However, I understand that a fire extinguisher was let off at the Bus Station later in the evening.
Obviously groups of gobby girls in miniskirts and shaven-headed boys staring at passers-by doesn't make for a pleasant atmosphere, but there's not much that could have be done. I noticed that the police there making themselves visible without being heavy-handed and attempting to disperse the crowds, which was I think a wise thing for them to do. Far better to keep them all in sight rather than shooing them off, which would only have resulted in an angry wrecking spree a few streets away.
Actually, I'm more interested to know what precisely is the attraction of standing outside Boots for a couple of hours on a cold evening.
Two plain answers to what is happening. Minority yob, mob culture and under confident binge drinkers.
I think if you were hang around town especially weekends you will find during the afternoon especially around the bus station attention seeking gangs some hellbent on intimidation gradually getting spaced out on drink or drugs. For those of us who still venture out later in the evening there is a gradual transition to 'binge' drinking 'muffin-tops' who seem to blow their weekly wage on Booze and hurl up at any opportunity, vomit and foul language. Also over intoxicated guys who dont seem to know when to stop drinking and develop an attitude of Mr invincible
Well thats put me off shopping late at night...
