Description: Heritage Days

We have just had a great few days visiting different venues and listening to talks in Shrewsbury for free.

Special mention for Haughmond Abbey, well worth a visit, more interesting, romantic and attractive than we thought it would be.

Conservation & modernism talk at Bear Steps, very intelligent and most interestng talk on heritage and design.

Walk around the town with Nigel Baker, archaeologist who has completed many studies in the town and of the Abbey. We went into the cellars under the Prince Rupert Hotel dating 1300 absolutely brilliant.

We took in:

Haughmond Abbey - absolutely lovely, really peaceful although parking is a pig (we had to park in thew Forestry Commission bit around the corner).

Wroxeter Roman city - had a great time chatting to the two roman soldiers, trying on helmets, putting chian mail on our 3 year old (who nearly fell over!).

Wenlock Priory - nice return here and grabbed a bottle of Walnut Liquer B)

Longden Coleham Pumping Station - really informative volunteers and think the council so nearly came to knocking it down....

Greek Orthodox Church - another really great piece of preservation. Didn't seem to fit in with the other visitors as we weren't pretentious art worshippers, just a young family interested to see what it was like.

Great fun and for free.

Can't wait to see what we can do next year. Just hope that their website works properly so we can find out everything.

I had trouble with the website too.
You have to book a lot of these events well in advance schizoidgal, at Bear Steps or the tourist office where ever that will be next year!
