Title: Sports For Women

kateharris - August 29, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
hi does anyone know of any activities locally that are available for women.
i would love to play a sport such as netball, hockey etc but cant really see any clubs which are looking for members
it is so much easier for men to start a sport than it is for women.
does anyone else agree??

Not sure if its easier Kate for anyone really it depends on your comittment. I used to play rugby in North Shropshire and the hockey club seemed to go hand in hand with the club. I know Whitchurch have a girls hockey and Rugby team, la crosse and netball teams.

Hi Kate,

In my experience clubs are often looking for new members but it can be more difficult if you are a beginner to a sport. The fullest on-line list of sports clubs in Shropshire is at www.energizestw.org.uk, they also have an e-newsletter you can sign up to which includes loads of sports news, events etc for the county.

Pengwern Rowing Club, Shrewsbury Masters Swimming Club, Shropshire Shufflers, Bridgnorth Rugby Club, Shrewsbury Rugby Club and Welti Tennis are all good places for women to start a sport in my experience but I'm sure there are lots more.

Hope this helps.

i did listen to radio shropshire the other day about never being too old to start a sport, and it did get me thinkgin that maybe i could get together with like minded people and start a netball team!!
cos im pretty sure lots of other people feel the same as me that they would like a hobby to get fit but cant find much???
