Title: Best Buildings In Shrewsbury?

Stargirl - July 23, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
We've talked about the ugliest and worst buildings in town, what about the nicest most attractive ones? Any suggestions?

I saw someone standing in Roushill this morning taking pictures of all the old buildings along there. There are some lovely ones, but I can't think of any that really stand out as different from the others.

So what's your favourite? The station? The prison? The old music hall? The Theatre Severn? ;)

Can't think of one single favourite, but I have a few favourites:

The Library (Old Shrewsbury School)
The Castle
The Station

All three of which are located on or near Castle Gates.

Also commendable are the Nexus development on Roushill and St Chad's Church.

Obviously, there's a huge wealth of buildings to choose from, and I could hardly disagree with PS's fine choices of the Library, Castle and Station but if I'm honest, the building which I really like is the remains of Old St Chad's

On a larger scale, I think the whole assemblage of buildings in the College Hill / Swan Hill / Belmont / Town Walls area is my particular favourite bit of the town, esp the 18th century frontages on Town Walls. There's not many finer in the Midlands.

Also, since the extension and general refurbishment, Morris's HQ on Bridge Street is probably one of Shrewsbury's best buildings. :)
