yeah, I was in the Shrewsbury college car park and me and a couple friends heard it. Incredible loud and there was 2 booms to it. I asked my brother when I got home and apparently the windows in our house shook.

Might not of been what we heard this afternoon but on Saturday Shrewsbury was the location for an Earthquake:

Yes we heard it hear at the sixth form college in town too!! Have no idea what it was - our windows on all of our buildings shook! We think it was a ploy to blow up the old building so that they have an excuse to build the new one hahahaha!!!
Would be very interested to know what it was though!!!

I wonder if theyre testing new explosives at a quarry somewhere... something with more of a kick.

Just getting details in possible expenation is that it was a RAF Typhoon aircraft flying over our area...

I heard it too here in Meole Brace. Way too loud to be the Bayston Hill quarry blastings.

It sounded like they dropped a bomb by mistake. :)

I heard it in Montford Bridge - I was on the phone at the time, and vaguely thought it could be a lorry accident somewhere on the A5 - it made enough of a noise for me to think 'what was that?'. It didn't shake the windows or doors, though, as it did in the town centre / Belle Vue / etc.

Interestingly, according to Wikipedia (which I know is a hugely unreliable source, but anyway) there are 8000 earthquakes of similar magnitude (<2) worldwide per day!

RAF Typhoon suffers 'system failure' over Shrewsbury
An RAF Eurofighter Typhoon suffered a "system failure" whilst flying over Shrewsbury it has been revealed.
Emergency services were flooded with calls as windows rattled and people thought there had been a major explosion in the town. The incident happened at 16:06 whilst the aircraft was flying over Shrewsbury on a training sortie from RAF Coningsby.
An RAF spokesperson said an emergency call to air traffic control was made from the aircraft which then performed an emergency descent to 10,000ft (3,048m) in order to ensure the safety of the aircraft and its two pilots.
In the course of the manoeuvre, the aircraft broke the sound barrier, causing a sonic boom. The aircraft safely returned to its Lincolnshire base 45 minutes later.
Sqd Ldr Martin Locke said: "The cause of the system failure would be investigated" and apologised for any anxiety caused to Shrewsbury residents.

I was quite taken aback as I thought I was back in our first home in Southend before they stopped testing at the Foulness Island army range! I certainly felt the house move a little (or maybe it was me when I jumped up form unpacking our books and nearly whacked my head on the underside of the table  ).

Heh, just thought! Were they trying to impress HRH up at Shawbury????? ;)
